A soothing herbal soup made from Mudavattukkal root, slow-simmered with aromatics for deep nourishment.
Mudavattukkal Soup is a traditional herbal preparation valued in Tamil households for its warming, healing benefits. Mudavattukkal (Drynaria quercifolia) is traditionally valued for supporting bone strength and reducing inflammation. When simmered with pepper, cumin, ginger, garlic, and shallots, this soup becomes warming, easy to digest, and naturally immunity-boosting. Light yet nourishing, it’s often taken to relieve body aches, improve digestion, and promote overall vitality.
Roughly mash small onions, tomato, ginger, garlic, cumin seeds, and pepper —or pulse once in a mixer.
In a thick-bottom vessel, pour 6 cups of water. Add grated Mudavattukkal, the crushed mixture, salt, coriander leaves, and mint leaves.
Bring to a boil, then reduce flame and simmer slowly until the liquid reduces to about 4 cups.
Filter the soup, discard the residue, and serve the clear golden broth warm.
Serving Suggestion: Serve warm, plain or with a squeeze of fresh lemon; Best enjoyed before meals or on cool evenings.
Add a few curry leaves for extra aroma.
Add a pinch of turmeric for additional anti-inflammatory benefits.
