- Asafoetida - 1 pinch
- Cinnamon - ½ inch piece
- Cloves - 2
- Cumin seeds - ½ teaspoon
- Coconut - grated - 2 tablespoons
- Kodo millet (varagu rice) - 1 cup
- Toor dal - ½ cup
- Small onion - 12
- Tomato - sliced - ¼ cup
- Carrot, beans, drumsticks, brinjal, potatoes - cut into pieces - 1 cup
- Green peas, butter beans or double beans - ⅓ cup
- Mustard - ¼ teaspoon
- Fenugreek - ¼ teaspoon

- Water - 5 cups
