A Traditional Recipe for Sweet and Spicy Idiyappam using Millet – A Great Menu for Breakfast/Dinner
Soak Samai rice for 2 hours.
Grind well to a fine batter and add salt. Add enough water and bring it to dosa batter consistency.
Cook in a idli vessel and use idiyappam maker to prepare the idiyappam.
Keep the idiyappam in a wide vessel and let it cool.
Take 2 cups of the cooked idiyappam in a wide vessel
Add the cardamom powder, grated coconut and palm sugar Gently mix everything. Sweet idiyappam is ready for serving.
Heat the oil in a frying pan. Add mustard seeds, urad dal, cumin seeds, curry leaves and fry.
Now, add the chillies and onion and saute well.
Add the turmeric powder and salt. Mix well to combine all.
Add the cooked millet idiyappam to this and mix it well gently for 3 to 4 minutes.
Finally, add the coriander leaves to it.
Healthy spicy millet idiyappam is ready for serving.
Side dish: Coconut chutney is a suitable side dish for this
You can add lemon juice in step 3 while preparing the spicy idiappam!
