Step by step method

  • Step 1

    Clean the foxtail millet and soak it in water for 30 minutes.

  • Step 2

    In a kadai, heat the oil and add the mustard seeds and cumin seeds and saute them.

  • Step 3

    Add the tomatoes, capsicum, and ginger and cook for 2 to 3 minutes.

  • Step 4

    Now, add the carrot, beans and green peas and cook for another 3 to 4 minutes, by that time the vegetables would have become soft.

  • Step 5

    Add the foxtail millet to the vegetables being cooked and stir it to combine with the vegetables.

  • Step 6

    Add the water and bring to a boil. Now, reduce the heat to low and cover it with a lid. Cook until the water is absorbed and the millet is cooked well.

  • Step 7

    Finally, add the coriander leaves and switch off the stove.

  • Tasty millet vegetable upma is ready for serving.

Tips & variations

  • Note: You can add one tablespoon of ghee once the water is absorbed. If you are adding ghee, reduce the amount of oil accordingly
