Sweet Stuffed Snack – Recipe in Simple Steps

Ingredients

Step by step method

  • Step 1

Cook the chana dal for two whistles in a pressure cooker*, drain the excess water and transfer the dal to a bowl and keep it aside.

  • Step 2

Add the jaggery, cardamom and coconut and grind them coarsely in a mixie using pulse mode, finally add the cooked chana dal and grind once.(Do not grind to a fine paste)

  • Step 3

Dissolve the salt in the boiling water. Add this water to the millet flour and mix well to make a dough without leaving any lumps.

  • Step 4

Take a lemon sized dough, spread it on the back side of a banana leaf, use some oil on the leaf so that the flour is not sticking to it. (You can even use any non-sticky plate).

  • Step 5

Keep the chana dal poornam, fold it and fix the edges firmly so that the stuffing(poornam) is not coming out.

  • Step 6

Steam it in an idli vessel or a steamer whichever is available.

  • Yummy sweet kozhukattai, everyone's favourite dish is ready for serving!

Tips & variations

  • Note:* Adjust to one whistle or keep the stove in low flame so that the chana dal is not overcooked.

  • You can even make this with other poornam like, coconut or til
