Simple Recipe without Onion and Garlic – Healthy Biryani with Millet

Ingredients

Step by step method

  • Step 1

    Wash the foxtail millet and soak it for 30 to 45 minutes.

  • Step 2

    Heat the oil in a wide cooker keeping the flame in medium heat. Add the cumin seeds, chopped tomatoes, salt, garam masala, and red chili powder and saute for 2 to 3 minutes.

  • Step 3

    Once the raw smell settles and the tomatoes are soft add the ginger and saute for a few more minutes.

  • Step 4

    Add the vegetables and saute until they combine well with the masala.

  • Step 5

    Now add the foxtail millet to the cooker. Stir until it mixes well. Add the yogurt and stir well.

  • Step 6

    Add the coriander leaves, mint leaves, and almonds, and stir until it mixes well. Then add the ghee and water.

  • Step 7

    Close the cooker with the lid and cook for 1 whistle and turn the flame low. Keep the flame low for 2 to 3 minutes and you will get the biryani fragrance. Turn off the heat and let it cool.

  • The yummy millet biryani is ready for serving.

Tips & variations

  • Note: If you want you can add onions and garlic. Onions in step 3 before adding tomatoes and garlic can be ground with ginger.

  • Side dish: Onion raita or cucumber raita will be suitable for this yummy biryani.
