Lessons for Life From a Kite

Efforts are required to be someone, to stand above the crowd but it’s easy to be anyone, one among the others – One of the many Lessons for life from a Kite

Recently we had been to Farrukhabad for the wedding reception of our daughter conducted by the groom’s family and that was the time the locals were celebrating Vasanth panchami . People were flying kites of various various designs and different colours. It was a feast for our eyes watching the children playing with the kites, flying very high and trying to cut each other’s kites.

Niranjana was wondering how far the kites were going and the kites cut by the children were stuck on the tall trees. We were looking into the way the children were playing, I could observe a few things that we can relate to our lives!

  • The success of the kite depends on its qualities and it also depends on the flyer – The success of any of our initiatives depends on our knowledge and efficiency.
  • The kite needs a good wind favourable for it to fly – Ensure that the environment is favourable for doing the activity proposed.
  • The kite can fly in the same way and reach the same height irrespective of its design or colour. – Anyone can achieve excellence irrespective of caste, religion, and colour. So, do not have an inferiority complex. Further, do not differentiate people based on all those things.
  • It is difficult for the kite to rise. Energy and effort are required for it to rise, but it gets stuck easily  somewhere or falls – Efforts are required to be someone, to stand above the crowd. And it’s easy to be anyone, one among the others.
  • The string that directs the kite to fly high is invisible – Have a guru or a mentor who can guide and motivate you to achieve your goals.
  • There is no limit- the kite can go higher and higher if the flyer is efficient and has the talent – There is no upper bound for us to reach – the few things we need are hard work, dedication, and perseverance to achieve.

Also, watching the kites flying very high and a few stuck in the trees reminded me of the small anecdote that many of you might have read. It goes like this:

A son is carefully watching his father fly a kite. After some time, the son says, “Dad, because of the string, the kite is not able to go any further higher”. Hearing this, the father smiles and breaks the string. The kite goes higher after breaking off the thread but comes and falls to the ground. The child is very dejected.
The father sits next to him and calmly explains,  “Son, in life,  we reach a certain level of prosperity and then we feel that there are certain things like Home, Family, Culture, Friendship, etc, that are not letting us grow any further.  We feel like we should be free from those strings that fetter us from going higher. But, remember Going higher is easier than staying there. And friends, family, culture, etc are  the things that will help us stay grounded even in the skies. If we try to break free  from those strings, our condition will be similar to the kite.”

This is a very simple anecdote. Still, it gives a  big lesson for life, right?.  The need for a relationship is elucidated by this.

“Never go away from culture, family, friends, and relationships as they help keep you stable while you are flying high.”

Life is Beautiful. Enjoy it with your family and friends. 😊
