A healthy side dish for idli / dosa and for rice

Ingredients

Step by step method

  • Step 1

    Heat 2 teaspoons of oil in a kadai and add urad dal to it. Roast until the dal turns golden.

  • Step 2

    Add curry leaves, green chillies, and ginger, and saute them until the raw smell vanishes. Now add the grated coconut. Saute the items for 2 more minutes.

  • Step 3

    Now take the roasted items in a plate and set aside for cooling.

  • Step 4

    Take these contents in a mixie jar, add salt and ¼ cup of water, and grind them to a coarse thuvaiyal.

  • Step 5

    Heat the remaining oil in the same kadai and add mustard, curry leaves and asafoetida. Add this to the curry leaves thuvaiyal for enhanced taste.

Tips & variations

  • You can use this as side dish for idli or dosa items. Also, mix with rice.

  • Curry leaves is rich in iron, antioxidants and it has many more health benefits.
