Healthy and Tasty Millet Breakfast Recipe
First dissolve ½ tsp of salt in the water and soak the vermicelli for 2-3 minutes. Drain the excess water using a drainer and steam the semiya in an idli cooker (or any steamer available) for 5 to 6 minutes.
Transfer the steamed semiya to a wide vessel and let it cool.
Boil the vegetables and green peas until it is haft-cooked, drain the water and keep the veggies aside.
Heat the oil in a frying pan. Add mustard seeds, urad dal, cumin seeds, curry leaves and fry.
Now, add the chillies and onion and saute well. Add the cooked vegetables and mix well. Add the turmeric powder and salt and mix until all the ingredients combine well.
Add the steamed millet semiya to this and mix it well for 3 to 4 minutes.
Healthy vegetable millet semiya kichadi is ready for serving.
Side dish: Coconut chutney is a suitable side dish for this kichadi.
Note: You can prepare the same with out the vegetables also. But, in that case adding groundnuts will add taste to the dish.
Do not soak the millet vermicelli for too long, it will start dissolving!
