A quick recipe of a side dish for dosa/idli!
In a mixie jar take the coconut, fried grams, red chillies, garlic pearls and grind them to a paste.
Add the tomatoes to the jar and grind it along with the coconut mix to a smooth paste.
Heat oil in a wide kadai and add the mustard seeds, urad dal, chana dal, cloves, cinnamon, star anise and sauté for 2 to 3 minutes.
Now, add the green chillies and onions and sauté until the onions are transparent. You can even add a few pieces of finely chopped tomatoes, but this step is optional. (I usually add!)
Once it is done add the tomato and coconut gravy to the kadai and mix it well. Add 2 cups of water and stir to mix it.
Keep it in medium flame for 5 to 7 minutes stirring occasionally.
Tasty sambar is ready to be served with crispy millet dosa or idli
Note: You can add an adequate amount of water as the sambar might become thick as we add fried grams.
