A Simple Recipe for Millet Idli with Hints to Increase the Softness!

Ingredients

Step by step method

  • Step 1

Clean and soak the millet for 3 to 4 hours. Clean and soak the urad dal and fenugreek seeds together for 2 hours.

  • Step 2

Grind the millet and the poha* in a wet grinder to a fine batter.

  • Step 3

Grind the urad dal and fenugreek seeds nicely adding water in installments until the batter becomes fluffy.

  • Step 4

Mix both the batters together, add salt and mix well.

Tips & variations

  • Note: Adding poha is optional, it will increase the softness of the idli. If adding thin poha, just wash and add with millet while grinding. If you are using thick or red rice poha or the millet poha, soak it for 30 minutes and add with the millet while grinding. You can even add cooked rice instead of poha.
