A Simple Recipe for a Millet Idli

Ingredients

Step by step method

  • Step 1

    Soak the Samai rice for 4 hours. Soak urad dal for 2 hours. Soak the fenugreek and caster seeds together for 4 hours.

  • Step 2

    Grind the urad dal, fenugreek and caster seed together by adding water as and when required until the flour comes fluffy.

  • Step 3

    Grind the Samai rice separately.

  • Step 4

    Mix both together adding the salt and ferment for 4 to 5 hours.

  • Idli batter is ready for making idlis.

Tips & variations

  • Side dish: Coconut chutney, groundnut chutney, tomato kurma or sambar.
