Step by step method

  • Step 1

    Heat the oil in a kadai and once the oil becomes hot add the banana flower and sauté for a few minutes and keep it aside.

  • Step 2

    Heat a cooker and add ghee. Add cardamom, cinnamon, and cloves.

  • Step 3

    Next add the ginger garlic paste and chilli powder to that and mix well. Sauté until the raw smell of ginger and garlic gets away.

  • Step 4

    Add the soaked rice and ragi and sauté for a few minutes and then add 3 ¾ cups of water.

  • Step 5

    Close the lid and let it cook for 5 minutes (until the content is half-cooked). Now add the fried banana flower to it and cook it for one whistle.

Tips & variations

  • If dry rose petals are available, you can add 1 teaspoon of it along with cloves(Step 2)

  • Side dish: Onion raita, brinjal curry or any curries of your choice will be a good combination for this.
