Love What You Have, Before Life Teaches You to Love What You Lost – Health
As said in the previous blog, I look into this statement as very important both in Relations and Health.
Health is also one thing that we have to adore while we still have it. When we are healthy we do not feel happy that we have good health and do not take any steps to keep up our health.
Until our stomach is digesting whatever we are eating, we go on and on eating all junk food or in the name of taste we eat all the oily and spicy food. Only when the stomach reaches its threshold and shows signals that it can not function properly and the doctor advises us to avoid certain foods, we do become aware of the importance of health😊
Also, we have one or the other reason to forgo our regular walking! Once the doctor strictly says ‘No other go, you have to go for walking’, then we do that. By that time we have already done the needed damage to our health. One of my friends, Kavi, has become obese and because of that she developed severe leg pain. Now, the doctor insists that she, because of obesity, should go for a walk regularly and she is not able to do that because of leg pain!
Can you see this?
Let me share my learnings from the UHV sessions on Health here. The feeling of self-regulation (the feeling of responsibility towards the body for nurturing, protection and the right utilisation of the body), in the self leads to health in the body.
At any point in time, everyone of us will be in anyone of the following states:
- Being healthy – all our internal and external organs are working in a definite manner, in harmony
- Having some small health issues like fever, stomach upset, like that – temporary disharmony in our body
- Having some diseases like diabetes, kidney failure, thyroid etc., where we depend on drugs/machines to perform our body functions
Now, let us see how to maintain/get back to good health, i.e., what is the program for health.
- If we are healthy, then the program to maintain our good health are:
- Intake and routine(Lifestyle)
- Labour and exercise
- Postures for regulating internal and external body organs and regulated breathing
- If we are having some small health issues then the program to bring back the harmony from temporary disharmony is: “Medicine and then we have to follow the program for maintaining good health!”
- If we have some diseases that make us dependent on drugs/machine to perform the body functions, then the program for health is “Treatment, of course in addition to that, we have to follow the steps for maintaining good health”, right?.
Intake includes food(Nutritious, digestible, waste excretable & of course tasty!), water, air, sunlight, and all intakes(sight, sound & smell) through our senses
Routine is our waking up time, eating time, sleeping time …(You can refer to the circadian rhythm for a right routine)
Labour is the movement of the body which produces some physical facility, Ex: Sweeping & Swabbing your house, kitchen gardening etc
Exercise is the movement of the body, Ex: Jogging, weight training in a gym etc
Postures for regulating internal and external body organs, Ex: Yoga
Regulated breathing, Ex: Pranayam
Now, what is our preferred state, 1 or 2 or 3? 1 right, Being healthy.
What do you think?
But, what happens is, until we are healthy we are just not bothered about our health and we are not taking care of our body. We want to be healthy, but we are not taking responsibility for that. Once we face some health issues then we start worrying about it. Then the same story, if only I had known this I would have made some efforts to keep my body healthy.
So, let us have a feeling of responsibility towards our body, after all body is our instrument. Are we not taking care of our vehicle, are we not taking care of our laptop, our guitar and for that matter any of our instruments?
Then why not our body? Will you give a thought to this and act ?
